Steven Aftergood over at the Federation of American Scientists’ (FAS) Secrecy News has gotten hold of the latest estimate of the cost of the so-called “war on terrorism” from the Congressional Research Service (CRS). The CRS report states:
Since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Congress has appropriated more than a trillion dollars for military operations in Afghanistan, Iraq, and elsewhere around the world.
As Aftergood notes:
This makes the “war on terrorism” the most costly of any military engagement in U.S. history in absolute terms or, if correcting for inflation, the second most expensive U.S. military action after World War II.
How long can this madness continue?
