Hillary Clinton knows a no-fly zone in Syria would necessitate killing a lot of Syrian civilians, but she advocates one anyway.

In a presidential debate on October 9, Hillary Clinton said with respect to Syria, “So I, when I was secretary of state, advocated and I advocate today a no-fly zone and safe zones.”

On June 4, 2013, at a Goldman Sachs conference, Clinton told her banker audience:

To have a no fly zone you have to take out all of the air defense, many of which are located in populated areas.  So our missiles, even if they are standoff missiles so we’re not putting our pilots at risk — you’re going to kill a lot of Syrians.  So all of a sudden this intervention that people talk about so glibly becomes an American and NATO involvement where you take a lot of civilians.

So, Clinton (a) advocates a no-fly zone in Syria despite (b) knowing that implementing it would mean killing a lot of Syrian civilians.

Ergo, what Clinton was effectively saying during the debate was: When I was secretary of state, I advocated and I advocate today willfully killing a lot of Syrian civilians.
