Today is International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People!
On December 2, 1977, the UN General Assembly passed Resolution 32/40 B affirming their right to self-determination and the right of Palestinian refugees to return to their homeland (from which they were ethnically cleansed by the Zionist forces in 1948).
The resolution called for the observance of a day of solidarity with the Palestinians every November 29.
It was on November 29, 1947 that the General Assembly passed Resolution 181 — the infamous “partition plan” resolution.
It’s actually ironic and somewhat inappropriate for the UN to have chosen this as a day to express solidarity with the Palestinians since the partition plan explicitly rejected their right to self-determination.
That’s something you can read more about in my book Obstacle to Peace: The US Role in the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict.
