In this interview, I discuss how the media are deceiving the public about COVID-19 to advocate extreme lockdown policies that do more harm than good.

I joined Peter R Quinones once again on his podcast Free Man Beyond the Wall, this time to discuss the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic and the political responses to it, as well as the role of the media in manufacturing consent for those policies. As always, we had a great discussion that I’m sure you’ll find enlightening. Here’s a brief overview of topics we covered:

  • How a Facebook so-called “Fact Check” article outright lies to the public about the SARS-CoV-2 fatality rate
  • How models upon which extreme lockdown policies were implemented got it totally wrong, and why modelers like those at Imperial College London have an incentive to produce over-exaggerated projections
  • How sensible policies would have let those at low risk go on making a living while protecting those at high risk, and how extreme lockdown measures accomplished essentially the opposite
  • How Sweden, which did not issue “stay-at-home” orders did make mistakes, but how its critics are completely wrong to say its mistake was to not implement extreme lockdown; also how Sweden is unique in acknowledging that it could have done better, whereas US politicians refuse to own up to their own deadly decision making
  • Why we need to look at New York City as an outlier and some of the reasons why it has seen such worse outcomes than everywhere else in the US
  • Why universal mask-wearing orders are not evidence-based, and how the media do public policy advocacy instead of journalism by deceiving the public about both how SARS-CoV-2 is transmitted and mask effectiveness
  • Why extreme lockdown measures have done more harm than good not just in economic terms, but in terms of health and lives
  • Why any “second wave” that might occur will be a direct consequence of the lockdown measures, just as the Imperial College model projected, due to the opportunity cost of lost herd immunity
  • Why the “V-shaped” recovery some are talking about won’t happen, and how the Federal Reserve’s response to the economic crisis caused by lockdown measures is just adding fuel to the fire and will cause more harm than good in the long run because, contrary to what politicians and the media believe, wealth doesn’t come from a printing press
