The latest email update from my state’s Senator Carl Levin states:
Apple Inc. has used a complex web of offshore entities – including three foreign subsidiaries the company claims are not tax resident in any nation – to avoid paying billions of dollars in U.S. income taxes, a bipartisan investigation by the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, which Sen. Levin chairs, has found. The findings are the latest in a series of examinations the subcommittee has done to show how multinational companies exploit loopholes to avoid taxes, which raises the deficit and the tax burden on working families.
No, Mr. Levin, Apple Inc. isn’t my enemy. You, sir, are my enemy.
Good for Apple Inc. for finding ways to avoid having to finance the criminal activities you and your colleagues are perpetually engaged in. Would that everyone could find ways to opt-out of financing the crimes of the empire to as much extent as possible without violence being brought to bear upon them by you and your minions. I applaud Apple Inc., sir.
Apple Inc. isn’t placing a tax burden on me. You, sir, and the rest of your colleagues in the Congress, are doing that, with your insanely irresponsible spending, which you pay for either by using force to expropriate wealth from working families, by borrowing and thereby destroying our children’s future by placing an enormous debt burden on them that you will use force to expropriate their wealth from them in the future, or simply by printing the money for it all and thereby stealing wealth from working families by robbing them of the purchasing power of the currency they receive in compensation for their sweat and their blood and their tears.
Apple Inc., sir, never did me any harm. On the contrary, my standard of living has been improved by this company because it has expended its capital to made ever better products available to me for ever lower costs. You, sir, on the other hand, and the rest of your colleagues have never done anything to increase my standard of living, but are a parasite who earns their living not by offering goods or services that people want and are willing to engage in voluntary exchange for, but by extracting wealth from people involuntarily through the use or threat of force to put to use for purposes I am opposed to, like the cronyism in which you shower special interests with your favors at the expense of everyone else in society, your endless illegal wars of aggression, your infringements of personal liberty, your perpetual violations of the Constitution, etc.
You, sir, not Apple Inc., are my enemy.
