Truth and Lies about SARS-CoV-2 Transmission

One of the means by which the government and mainstream media manufactured consent for the disastrous authoritarian lockdown measures and their endgame of coerced mass vaccination was to deceive the public about the risks of viral transmission.

The narrative, typified by the reporting of the New York Times, was that everyone needs to wear a mask in public because SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19, spreads easily through the air via aerosolized particles, and as much as half of community transmission was from people who had no symptoms. The science on mandatory masking was “settled”, we were told.

In fact, the science at the time indicated that the primary mode of transmission was larger respiratory droplets that do not linger in the air, whereas airborne transmission via aerosols was documented to occur only in unique circumstances, such as “superspreader” events where people gathered in an enclosed space with poor ventilation and did things like sing or talk loudly.

And the science on masking was far from settled. On the contrary, there was a raging debate in the medical literature, and mask mandates, as rightly noted at the time by the World Health Organization (WHO), were policies unsupported by scientific evidence.

The masking of healthy people never made any sense. While the fearmongering narrative of “silent spreaders” dominated, the scientific evidence indicates that it was very rare that an infected person who never developed symptoms of COVID-19 spread the virus, and transmission before symptom onset from people who do develop the disease was likely to have represented a small proportion of community spread.
