Interview: Counterproductive Claims from the Health Freedom Movement

In this interview, I discuss the counterproductivity of certain false claims that have come out of the health freedom movement.

I joined Bretigne Shaffer once again on her podcast What Then Must We Do? to discuss how certain counterproductive claims that have come out of the health freedom movement during the COVID-19 pandemic have caused untold harm to the movement’s credibility. Topics we discussed include:

  • Why it is important for members of the health freedom movement to combat misinformation coming out of the movement
  • How the false claim that COVID-19 was being caused not by a virus but by EMF radiation from 5G technology enabled the mainstream media to dismiss legitimate concerns about the biological effects from EMF radiation and the hypothesis that it might make people more vulnerable to infectious diseases
  • How the “plandemic” narrative (e.g., the idea that Bill Gates is behind it and that the virus was engineered and deliberately released) goes way beyond the evidence and legitimizes lockdown advocates’ claims that the health freedom movement is spreading conspiracy theories, which enables the media to deflect attention away from how powerful people have used the pandemic as a pretext to advance certain pre-existing political and financial agendas as well as to dismiss the legitimate scientific hypothesis that SARS-CoV-2 is of lab origin
  • Why the lab origin hypothesis is better supported by the evidence than the zoonotic origin hypothesis
  • How the false claim that SARS-CoV-2 has never been isolated (i.e., never proven to exist) greatly harms the credibility of the health freedom movement and is grounded in total ignorance of the science (the virus is constantly being isolated and whole genome sequenced by scientists all over the world)
  • Why it’s not “germ theory” versus “terrain theory” but both: SARS-CoV-2 infection is an insufficient but necessary factor in the pathogenesis of COVID-19
  • Why the whole existing paradigm in the medical approach to solving the problem with infectious disease is archaic and ludicrous
  • Why the COVID-19 pandemic should be a wake up call to the human population and especially the populations of developed countries about the need to focus on natural means of maintaining good health and living in greater harmony with our natural environment
  • Why pathogenic challenge is necessary for humans to maintain good health and strong immunity, and why our sanitary lifestyles and the medical establishment’s paradigm of waging “war” on pathogens results in lifetimes of chronic disease
  • Why central planning doesn’t work any better with health than it does with the economy
  • How the mainstream discourse on critically important issues like the COVID-19 pandemic is intellectually bankrupt
  • How we all as news consumers need to develop critical thinking skills, especially because most journalists today do not have those skills, as illustrated by a recent New York Times article that literally argued that people should just go to Wikipedia for information rather than researching primary source materials

I think you could have taken a more productive tone to this. Really, this is an unfunded group of people. Like.. they can say what they want. You could try saying I’m a trained journalist, this is how its done in journalism, these are good rules of thumb and this is what sticks out as unjournalistic and inconsistent and not evidence based.. enough. Because, like you said, there is some evidence for some of these claims. Number one False hood in my opinion that should have been focussed on is there is no sickness happening from a Covid. Okay maybe its not even in the form of a virus, I don’t know. Why does it act like Malaria and get treated best as if its malaria? That’s my question. But I know for a facts, its real, its transmittable somehow.. Got it from my sick symptomatic massage client. I got very sick of hearing that from the health freedom movement. Everything else, honestly even the rule followers were also saying, maybe more than the health freedom movement tbh. Mainstream was really more about the bioweapon storyline than I saw in alt movement, personally – where I live anyways. And it did absolutely nothing to change their behaviour from obedient rule followers. Just created an image of omnipotence for the authorities. So that’s a better argument to not emphasize those theories, they create a false or inflated power and image which is, in fact, untrue. This is a short-term power grab which will inevitably fail.. And I think that’s a better way to envision it than ‘conspiracy’ as it reflects its true vulnerability and criminality.

    • I don’t understand what you are trying to say or in what way you are suggesting that my “tone” in the interview was unproductive. I think that exposing misinformation coming out of the health freedom movement that is causing harm to the health freedom movement and holding it back is a productive use of my time since my aim is to advance health freedom.
