The 9/11 attacks served as the pretext for the US "war on terrorism", which was a pretext for advancing the neocon foreign policy agenda.

After the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the neocons in the Bush administration used 9/11 as a pretext to advance a pre-planned foreign policy agenda aimed at advancing US global hegemony. On October 7, 2001, the US launched “Operation Enduring Freedom”, resulting in a war that lasted for 20 years.
